Sparking Inspiration
May 1, 2022I’m still in that low inspiration rut that I’ve sadly been in for a while now. But! I’ve been down to London recently, doing my typical street photography, so keep an eye out for those photos!
For the book that I’ve been reading, I finished Hyperion. It was a very interesting book, I enjoyed the anthology-style presentation of its substories. It let the author paint very intriguing backstories and motivations for the seven main characters of the book, which is something I rate highly in novels. The worldbuilding was also handled in a very nice fashion, where it wasn’t a lore dump - like how The Three-Body Problem handled its worldbuilding - but still approached some concepts with the assumption that you were living inside the universe.
The book isn’t perfect, unfortunately. The language used is extremely dated, surprisingly so, considering it was written in the late 80s. Many of the female characters have a much more sexually-charged description compared to their male counterparts, on top of treating non-Hegemony individuals in a very caricatured way.
Despite these problems, I still went out and bought the next book immediately! That should give you an idea of how much I liked the book. Maybe I could try recreating the Shrike in my photos?
